Software Safety Engineer

The Software Safety Engineer will support the Department of Defense (DoD) located in Redstone Arsenal, AL. 



Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level software and system safety engineering support for complex defense and weapons-related programs throughout the full system lifecycle, including research and development, testing, production, deployment, and sustainment activities.
  • Lead and support safety evaluations for missile, rocket, radar, and other software-intensive systems to ensure safe design practices, operational procedures, and risk mitigation strategies are incorporated across all phases of development.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert in software safety by providing guidance, analysis, and engineering support related to software design, integration, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Perform independent system and software safety analyses, hazard assessments, risk evaluations, and design reviews for systems, subsystems, and associated equipment.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of software safety processes, standards, and criteria to ensure compliance with applicable program and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, program management, quality, and customer teams to ensure safety and risk management processes are effectively executed throughout the lifecycle of supported systems.
  • Review and assess technical documentation, safety artifacts, requirements, and engineering changes to ensure software and system safety considerations are properly addressed.
  • Provide engineering and safety support during system fielding, operational deployment, testing activities, and long-term sustainment efforts.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering teams as needed while supporting overall program safety objectives.
  • Support additional engineering and program activities as assigned.
