Software Engineer, Hardware Test & Automation

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Software Engineer to develop and maintain the software infrastructure supporting hardware testing, system validation, and engineering automation for an innovative, highly technical organization.

This role involves developing software for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) testbeds, automating Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), and building reliable tools that enable efficient testing across engineering and manufacturing workflows.

The engineer will also help develop and manage telemetry systems supporting engineering development environments, ensuring strong observability, performance monitoring, and data accessibility across teams.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of impactful engineering projects in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement modular, reusable automation software, primarily in Python, to support manufacturing and engineering design verification.
  • Develop automation software for test articles, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems.
  • Enable automated test execution across hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environments and virtualized simulations.
  • Develop algorithms to analyze complex test data and verify compliance with established acceptance criteria.
  • Build tools that improve the frequency, reliability, and automation of software deployment, test execution, and data analysis within continuous integration and release environments.
  • Support the development and maintenance of telemetry systems for engineering and hardware testing environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 3+ years of software development experience in C, C++, Python, or full-stack software development.
  • Demonstrated technical ability through prior projects, completed products, or relevant engineering accomplishments.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a hands-on technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with configuration management and version control tools.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining build toolchains, test automation infrastructure, and telemetry systems.
  • Experience automating manufacturing processes and testing to improve production efficiency, yields, or cycle times.
  • Familiarity with digital and analog interfaces, including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, VLAN, CAN bus, SPI, I²C, Modbus, and analog-to-digital conversion.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing skills.
  • Foundational knowledge of networking, electronics, mathematics, and physics.
  • Experience in fast-paced engineering environments requiring resourcefulness, adaptability, and independent technical execution.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Q security clearance.
  • Must be available to work onsite in Los Angeles, CA, five days per week.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends when project requirements necessitate.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated base salary range is $100,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and technical expertise.

Additional compensation and benefits may include equity incentives, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
