Software Engineer, Automation & Controls

Alpine Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer, Controls & Automation to design and implement control systems for test stands, production equipment, and facility operations.

You’ll have meaningful ownership of systems as they’re built and improved. The work spans PLC programming, SCADA/HMI, hardware integration, testing, and operational reliability. It calls for someone who can make design decisions—not only support controls infrastructure designed by someone else.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, and maintain PLC-based controls for test and production systems.
  • Develop and integrate SCADA/HMI capabilities for monitoring, alarming, and operational visibility.
  • Write and review Structured Text and help define maintainable control-system architecture.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, field devices, and supporting software with electrical, hardware, and process engineering teams.
  • Debug system behavior, investigate failures, and improve reliability.
  • Establish practical standards for coding, testing, and operation as systems scale.

What we’re looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of industrial controls or automation software experience.
  • Production-level PLC programming experience, including Structured Text.
  • Demonstrated ability to design or substantially develop control systems, rather than only maintain existing installations.
  • Experience with industrial hardware–software integration, control loops, and SCADA/HMI.
  • Ability to work onsite and meet the role’s U.S. citizenship and clearance requirements, subject to confirmation of the final approved eligibility language.

Particularly valuable experience

  • Beckhoff/TwinCAT or Ignition by Inductive Automation.
  • Other industrial platforms, including Siemens or Rockwell/Allen-Bradley.
  • C++, Rust, or Python used to build supporting controls services or tooling.
  • High-end manufacturing, production-line, or other high-reliability industrial systems.
  • Automated testing, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or technical leadership that remains hands-on.
