Senior Database Administrator

Job Summary

This position will be responsible for the development, production and maintenance of all SQL Server systems within the bank. The primary responsibilities will be to ensure the stability, security, and reliability of all MS SQL Server systems, as well as assist development teams with best practices and code optimization as needed.

This is a senior Microsoft SQL Server DBA role largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. This is a highly competent and highly motivated individual. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role include owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents and requests within provided SLAs, reviewing service related reports (e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, and responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with the team to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with our customers (bank associates) to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.

Essential Duties

· Lead on all migrations and upgrades for SQL, both current and future versions

· Examining and Analyzing High Availability needs and requirements, developing and providing Design and Implementation to support the project's requirements in MS SQL.

· Review and make recommendations for tuning existing environments

· Define and lead the adoption of best practices and processes.

· Experiment with new technologies to make sure we can scale for the future.

· Maintain and monitor large database environments for 24/7 availability

· Manage and execute daily operational jobs, including backups, index / statistics updates, defrags, etc.

· Develop alerts, reports and automated processes for failed jobs

· Store, trend and analyze database and system performance measurements over time

· Optimize procedures, indexes and table schemas according to trending data

· Ability to perform SQL server migrations – adhering to best practices

· Ensure security measures and policies are in place by minimizing scope of exposure to logins, updating security patches, separating service accounts for administrative jobs and performing necessary security audits

· Plan, design and implement the database capacity, physical and logical modeling for a large .NET applications

· Be the Primary on-call for 24/7 database support.

· Full involvement in deployment of applications when needed

· Problem Resolution and Process Management

· Drive problem resolution and root cause analysis across the technology stack.

· Participate in the resolution of database availability, capacity, and performance issues

· Contribute to ongoing improvement of internal processes and SQL Server tools

· Participate in infrastructure and organizational initiatives across multiple IT disciplines

· Monitor MS SQL performance through Solarwinds, reporting and remediating any issues within the published SLAs.

· Create complete and accurate documentation of the system design, operational procedures, change management, incident, and problem management.

· Performs other assigned duties.

Essential Duty – On Call Support

When scheduled for on-call duty, responsible for support after hours and ensuring that response times and services levels are within the guidelines established by management. Infrastructure Shared Services personnel must ensure that cell phones are on and available in the event of a support call or outage alert via text message. Infrastructure Shared Services personnel may be expected to be available to respond to critical situations, even if not scheduled for on-call duty.

Officer Title Eligibility

For qualified positions, the Bank may designate an Officer Title to an employee who seeks and/or meets defined competencies for an eligible position. This position qualifies for the officer title(s) Assistant Vice President or Vice President.

Complies with all State and Federal Banking regulatory requirements, including but not limited to: BSA, Anti-Money Laundering OFAC, CIP, Financial Elder Abuse Reporting, Sexual Harassment, Information Security and privacy requirements. This position will elevate suspicious activity to supervisory staff and/or BSA department. Completes compliance and other technical training workshops as assigned.

Education and Experience

· Bachelors in computer science or equivalent work experience

· 10+ years’ experience as a dedicated DBA, administrating large production database environments working with SQL 2012 – 2019

· Microsoft MCSA SQL, MCDBA, or equivalent

· Cloud administration experience or certification preferred

· ITIL 3 or 4 certification preferred

· Banking background is a plus
