The MEP Superintendent – Mission Critical provides field leadership for the execution of highly complex, MEP‑driven construction projects where system performance, redundancy, and uptime are critical. This role is directly responsible for the planning, coordination, installation, and integration of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and low‑voltage systems from early rough‑in through testing, commissioning, and turnover.
MEP Superintendent partners closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, trade partners, and commissioning teams to deliver mission‑critical facilities to the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety culture across all MEP scopes, enforcing safety standards and jobsite discipline.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and corrective actions for MEP activities.
- Enforce strict quality control standards aligned with mission‑critical performance requirements.
- Lead day‑to‑day field execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire protection, and low‑voltage systems.
- Coordinate detailed installation sequencing and system interdependencies.
- Identify and resolve constructability issues related to MEP systems early.
- Oversee system testing, start‑up, commissioning support, and turnover activities.
- Coordinate with commissioning agents, owners, designers, and trade partners to ensure systems meet performance and redundancy criteria.
- Maintain a zero‑defect mindset through installation, testing, and closeout.
- Develop and manage detailed MEP look‑ahead schedules and manpower planning.
- Lead daily coordination with MEP trade partners to maintain productivity and schedule adherence.
- Track installation progress and proactively mitigate risks.
- Partner closely with the Project Manager and General Superintendent to align MEP execution with overall project goals.
- Mentor field personnel and trade partners to drive consistency, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Participate in pull planning, coordination meetings, and system readiness reviews
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience supervising MEP‑intensive or mission‑critical construction projects.
- Mechanical or Electrical degree preferred, or 5+ years of relevant trade experience.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical distribution, mechanical systems, controls, and life‑safety systems.
- Experience supporting testing, commissioning, and system turnover.
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction and MEP documents.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
