Job Description
This is a hands-on, floor-facing automation role focused on keeping the site's control systems running day to day. The Automation Engineer II works closely with the site's hourly automation technicians, providing troubleshooting support across the two major PLC platforms in use — Allen-Bradley and Siemens (Step 7).
The role is also positioned to grow with the site's automation roadmap: Alcon is actively integrating AI and machine learning into its manufacturing processes (for example, camera systems with machine-learning capability), and this person will be involved in adapting and troubleshooting PLC-controlled processes as those technologies come online. The site is also preparing to roll out cobots (collaborative robots) as its next major automation initiative, so exposure to robot programming and human-robot interaction will become increasingly relevant to this role over time.
This is a strong fit for someone earlier in their automation career who wants hands-on plant-floor experience and room to grow alongside new technology initiatives, rather than someone looking for a purely desk-based engineering role.
Day-to-Day
- Works hand-in-hand with automation techs (hourly employees)
