PowerBI and Fabric Project Delivery Lead

Power BI & Microsoft Fabric Project Delivery Lead

Duration: 9–12 Month Contract

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Power BI & Microsoft Fabric Project Delivery Lead to lead a major enterprise BI modernization initiative involving approximately 700 existing Power BI reports.

The project will begin by establishing the semantic modeling and data architecture within Microsoft Fabric. Once that foundation is in place, the team will migrate, repoint, or rework the existing Power BI reports to operate against the new Fabric architecture.

This is not a traditional project management role. This person must have strong technical knowledge of Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, DAX, semantic modeling, and enterprise BI architecture while also being capable of leading a large-scale migration effort from planning through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a large-scale modernization effort involving approximately 700 existing Power BI reports.
  • Lead the design and development of the semantic modeling foundation within Microsoft Fabric.
  • Define the approach for migrating, repointing, or rebuilding existing Power BI reports against the new Fabric architecture.
  • Establish Power BI, Fabric, DAX, semantic modeling, and development standards.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership throughout the engagement.
  • Review Power BI reports, DAX calculations, semantic models, and technical work produced by the development team.
  • Establish migration priorities, backlog management, acceptance criteria, and release cadence.
  • Ensure migrated reports accurately reconcile against existing reports and source data.
  • Coordinate testing, UAT, business acceptance, and production releases.
  • Lead onshore and offshore/nearshore technical resources.
  • Manage project dependencies, risks, technical issues, and delivery blockers.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to ensure reporting requirements are maintained throughout the migration.
  • Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and technical decisions to senior stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of the engagement and independently drive the project forward.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of BI, analytics, or data delivery experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale BI modernization or migration initiatives.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
  • Experience transitioning existing Power BI reporting environments onto a Fabric-based data and semantic-model architecture.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing semantic models.
  • Strong hands-on Power BI and DAX experience.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, Star Schema, data relationships, measures, calculations, and reporting architecture.
  • Experience establishing Power BI/Fabric development and modeling standards.
  • Experience validating migrated reports and performing source-to-target/data reconciliation.
  • Experience managing QA, UAT, acceptance criteria, sign-off, and production releases.
  • Experience leading technical delivery teams, including onshore and offshore/nearshore resources.
  • Strong senior-level stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of a complex engagement and drive delivery with limited direction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous consulting experience delivering BI/data projects for external clients.
  • Banking or financial services experience.
  • Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Azure Synapse experience.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale Power BI environments involving hundreds of reports.
