Mobile Facilities Engineer (Raleigh)

Mobile HVAC Technician

Location: Raleigh, NC area

Position Type: Contract-to-Hire

Union Status: Nonunion

Travel: Local travel to multiple customer facilities, generally within approximately 1 hour of home

Customers Supported: Approximately 20–30 different customer locations

Position Overview

Seeking a well-rounded Mobile HVAC Technician to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and general building systems across multiple commercial facilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong HVAC background while also being comfortable handling light plumbing, electrical, and general handyman/building maintenance work.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5–6+ years of HVAC experience
  • Commercial HVAC experience strongly preferred
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
  • Basic/light plumbing experience
  • Basic/light electrical experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Comfortable traveling between multiple customer facilities
  • Able to work independently in a mobile service environment

Key Responsibilities

HVAC & Mechanical

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and associated equipment
  • Clean, inspect, calibrate, and replace components as needed
  • Record equipment readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation
  • Diagnose mechanical and HVAC system issues and take corrective action

General Building Maintenance

  • Perform light plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Support mechanical, structural, fire/life safety, controls, and other facility systems
  • Handle general handyman and building maintenance needs
  • Perform routine facility inspections and identify maintenance issues

Mobile Facility Support

  • Travel between approximately 20–30 customer locations throughout the Raleigh area
  • Frequency at individual locations may range from once per month to multiple visits per month
  • Territory is generally structured to keep travel within approximately one hour of the technician's home and within a normal 8-hour workday
  • Manage preventive maintenance and service needs across assigned facilities
  • Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and inventory
  • Coordinate with outside contractors when necessary
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Additional Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to safely work with commercial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems

Preferred Experience

  • Commercial facilities/building engineering background
  • Trade school education in HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical systems
  • Broad experience across multiple building trades

Ideal Candidate Profile

A commercial HVAC technician or mobile building engineer with 5–7 years of experience who has strong HVAC troubleshooting skills but is also comfortable being a generalist. Look for candidates who have worked across multiple commercial facilities and can handle HVAC + light electrical + light plumbing + general building maintenance rather than someone whose experience is exclusively HVAC installation.
