Position: VP, Product
MUST:
■ 10+ years in product, including several years as a Head of Product or VP of Product. Would consider Director-level candidates from a large/complex organization; otherwise, want to see VP or Head of Product-level experience.
■ Experience building a SaaS product – REQUIRED. Ideally, a SaaS product specific to field service. Strong preference for field service apps; could also consider healthcare, fast-food chains, airlines, energy, or materials.
■ Ability to grow and scale a product + modernize an existing product.
– Has run go-to-market for a product and led the strategy/execution through launch.
■ Track record driving adoption of an internal platform across a distributed, multi-entity operating footprint, including formal change management.
■ Demonstrated ability to push back on internal executives and field operators, challenge the status quo, and navigate strong opinions about how the product should work.
■ Comfortable building, not maintaining — willing to start as the only product person and then build a product team from there.
■ Real discovery muscle. Comfortable spending time in the field with frontline users and translating what they see into requirements.
– 30–40% travel, with field time spent alongside branch presidents, back-office teams, and operators.
■ Experience building and upgrading a product management team, including performance management and blended onshore/offshore models.
■ Fluency with modern product tooling for analytics, design, and delivery tracking.
– Jira, Miro, Figma, GitHub, Angular environment, Node.js environment, PostgreSQL database. Mobile app is currently Flutter and moving to React Native – REACT NATIVE REQUIRED.
■ Ability to hold your own with operators. Branch presidents and estimators will test you before they believe you.
PLUS:
■ Construction technology, field service, specialty trades, or another physical-operations vertical.
■ Private equity-backed operating experience with a defined value creation plan.
■ Experience with a platform undergoing architectural modernization while continuing to ship to production.
■ Background in revenue lifecycle, CRM, or sales enablement product surfaces.
DAY TO DAY:
Our client, the largest self-perform commercial paving and pavement maintenance platform in the United States, backed by AEA Investors, is seeking a VP of Product to join their team. The company operates across 30+ acquired brands and is executing a value creation plan that roughly doubles the business by 2029.
Currently, the technology organization is being built from scratch. This is a build role, not a maintenance role. This role owns what gets built and why. It sets the product thesis for the platform, holds the roadmap, and is the single accountable owner for whether the platform changes how 30+ brands actually operate.
SELLING POINT:
Two things make this different from a typical VP of Product seat.
- First, the users are internal and captive, which removes the usual adoption levers and replaces them with change management, branch credibility, and field trust.
- Second, the product is measured in operating outcomes rather than product metrics: bid win rate, direct margin realization, days to cash, and labor hours per job. A feature that ships and does not move one of those numbers has not succeeded. The near-term mandate is internal. External commercialization of the platform is a later-horizon objective and is not the focus of this role in year one.
