Safety Coordinator II

Job Overview

The Safety Coordinator II supports field operations with increased independence by conducting jobsite safety observations, identifying hazards, reinforcing safe work practices, and supporting corrective actions.

This role requires sound judgment in recognizing developing risks and helps maintain consistent compliance with applicable state OSHA regulations, company safety programs, and project-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Field Safety & Hazard Identification

• Conduct routine jobsite walkthroughs independently, with focus on active and higher-risk work areas.
• Identify obvious and developing hazards based on work scope and site conditions.
• Document observations, hazards, and corrective actions accurately and consistently.
• Monitor work involving fall protection, MEWP operations, LOTO, temporary power, and electrical safety.
• Address routine safety concerns in the field and escalate complex or unresolved issues to Safety Management.
• Support implementation and follow-up of corrective actions.

High-Risk Work Support

Review high-risk work documentation and observe activities involving:

• Fall protection systems
• Energized electrical work and LOTO
• MEWP and forklift operations
• Confined space preparation
• Trenching, excavation, and shoring controls

Identify documentation or field gaps, escalate concerns when appropriate, and support pre-task planning discussions as directed.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and timely safety documentation in applicable safety management systems.
• Track corrective actions through completion and closure.
• Assist with incident documentation, fact gathering, and preliminary information collection.
• Help ensure field reporting is complete, consistent, and accurate.

Training & Field Engagement

• Support and occasionally facilitate toolbox talks and safety discussions.
• Reinforce established safety procedures and leadership expectations.
• Assist with employee onboarding.
• Provide informal guidance to less-experienced Safety Coordinators.
• Maintain a visible and engaged presence throughout field operations.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work with foremen, superintendents, and project teams to understand upcoming work and associated risks.
• Clearly communicate hazards, expectations, and corrective actions.
• Address routine concerns directly while escalating higher-risk issues or resistance.
• Promote consistent safety expectations across crews and projects.

Program Compliance

• Support implementation of company safety programs, procedures, and site-specific plans.
• Assist with compliance with applicable state OSHA requirements.
• Participate in project audits and inspections and assist with preparation activities.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid, insurable driver's license
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
• Working knowledge of construction environments and common hazard controls
• Ability to independently identify, document, and communicate routine hazards
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to reinforce safety expectations with limited supervision
• Strong attention to detail and documentation quality
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in active construction environments
• Proficiency with mobile devices and safety management/reporting systems
• Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and professional conduct

Preferred

• Familiarity with construction safety programs including fall protection, MEWP, electrical safety, and LOTO
• Working knowledge of applicable state OSHA regulations
• Experience reviewing AHAs, permits, and other safety documentation
• OSHA 30 Construction certification, or ability to obtain within six months
• Experience in commercial, industrial, electrical, or renewable-energy construction

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Safety or construction-related coursework or training preferred
• Typically 2–4 years of construction or safety-related experience
• Previous Safety Coordinator or equivalent field safety experience preferred

Physical & Work Environment

• Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, and movement throughout active construction sites
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working at elevated locations and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Regular use of required PPE
• Work may occur on commercial, industrial, electrical, or renewable-energy construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, uneven terrain, and simultaneous operations
• Frequent interaction with electricians, foremen, superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and other trades
