Tax Accountant

 

MUST:

  • 18 months minimum years of experience as tax accountant (should be coming from a public accounting firm or insurance company) 
  • For senior level person: Senior level- must show mastery of a tax return , dig in depths to adjustments- explain cradle to grave, higher they get more expert level the person needs to be 
  • c-corp, corporate returns / 1120 expertise– required 
  • Bachelors from a good school- in finance, accounting, related
  • Federal tax return experience, not state 
  • Comes from public accounting firm or from insurance/finance 
  • Requires moderate knowledge of tax accounting under ASC 740
  • Has basic federal tax compliance skills
  • sharp + good communication
  • strong with working with tax software 
  • experience with not just state income tax compliance
  • strong with Excel 
  • Comfort/ability to use ai tools/automation 

PLUS:

  • comes from KPMG
  • Insurance taxation- SSAP 101, etc. 
  • technical accounting guidance for provision is ASC 740-not required but nice to have 
  • worked for an insurance company in a tax dept- HUGE PLUS
  • strong with federal tax provision and return experience and us income tax compliance and provision, 1120 experience 
  • Masters in Tax or Accounting
  • CPA
  • OTP or powerbi or altyerx
  • has been through a software implementation for tax
  • onesource provision or onesource income tax

 

DAY TO DAY:

This is a super exciting full time job opportunity with one of our clients, a fast growing Life Insurance and Annuities Company. The Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's income tax reporting and compliance functions, with a primary focus on preparing tax provisions under U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting standards for life insurance entities. This role contributes to the accurate calculation of tax adjustments and ensures compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.

 

Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing federal and state income tax returns, maintaining supporting schedules and workpapers, assisting with quarterly estimated tax calculations, and coordinating with external tax advisors throughout the compliance process. The position also supports the collection and organization of tax-related information needed for timely filings.

 

Additional duties include reconciling tax provision amounts to filed tax returns, conducting research on tax issues, and participating in tax planning initiatives and other department projects as assigned. The Tax Accountant reports directly to the Tax Manager and is expected to work on-site at the company's Durham, North Carolina headquarters three days per week.
