Mechanical Field Engineer

The Field Engineer serves as the “eyes and ears” on the construction floor, with a primary focus on quality control and verifying that the physical installation aligns with approved BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordinates and drawings. In this role, the Field Engineer reviews mechanical RFIs and submittals for compliance with project master specifications prior to senior engineer review to reduce rework, participates in weekly 3D coordination meetings with the general contractor to resolve clashes between mechanical systems and electrical busways, and performs daily QA/QC site walks to ensure mechanical subcontractors are installing equipment—such as AHUs and heat exchangers—in accordance with approved documents. The Field Engineer maintains and drives resolution of the mechanical issue log within project management software (e.g., Procore or internal tools), supports internal engineering teams and third-party agents during Level 3 (pre-functional) and Level 4 (functional) commissioning activities, and leads mechanical coordination meetings to address technical roadblocks. Additional responsibilities include tracking long-lead mechanical equipment to ensure schedule alignment, reviewing mechanical bulletins and change orders to provide technical recommendations to project managers and engineers, ensuring all O&M manuals and as-built drawings are collected and properly archived, and overseeing safety compliance for mechanical trades, with particular attention to hot work and heavy rigging operations.
