Operations Manager

Job Description

This role is responsible for regional leadership and management of day-to-day department operations, including oversight of Field Personnel, Technical Service Managers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, and Systems Software Engineers. Responsibilities encompass both Construction and Service Operations.

The position supports the strategic planning and development of the overall operations and technical services group in alignment with the organization’s strategic direction.


Essential Functions

  • Manage and oversee company standards, process execution, and quality assurance for the local operations team.
  • Lead the local team using leadership and change management techniques to effectively implement new company strategies, standards, and processes as needed.
  • Manage contracting and service group workload and resource capacity through effective planning and allocation of team resources based on business needs.
  • Oversee the contracting and service project turnover process and ensure coordination meetings with Project Managers and Project Engineers to gather all necessary information for engineering, software development, and field service execution.
  • Manage and maintain engineering, software, and graphics standards documentation and libraries at the local and regional levels.
  • Administer individual skills assessments and support annual personal and professional development planning for operations personnel.
  • Support the development of methods and processes to increase personnel efficiency and effectiveness while working to reduce overall project and service costs.
  • Develop local market networking relationships and third-party recruiting partnerships to support the hiring of operational staff.
  • Develop an annual staffing and recruiting strategy to support growth of the local operations business.
  • Provide weekly and monthly resource capacity planning and scheduling updates to the management team. Participate in monthly backlog reviews with Sales and Service leadership.
  • Proactively evaluate potential project issues and collaborate with Project Managers to initiate action plans that minimize risk and negative outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, project managers, office staff, and field personnel. Schedule and attend meetings as required.
  • Build and maintain a local network of subcontracting partners to support outsourced contracting and service work when necessary.
  • Provide project development support to Project Managers, including assistance with solutions, applications, execution strategies, and cost estimating.
  • Support project accountability and participate in post-project reviews when required.
  • Monitor individual and departmental productivity on a monthly and year-to-date basis to meet established performance metrics.
  • Manage cost accountability for team members through effective leadership, communication, and coaching.
  • Evaluate and develop operational leadership roles to support effective management and growth of the local business.
  • Participate in internal and external presentations to demonstrate the operational team’s expertise, capabilities, and credibility when required.
  • Continuously pursue professional development related to market trends, industry technologies, and solutions to support operational effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by local or regional leadership.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, and/or 7–10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to operate independently while exercising sound judgment regarding when to collaborate with others or escalate issues to leadership.
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity and professional conduct.
  • Ability to communicate advanced concepts in a clear and understandable manner to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks appropriately and guide less experienced team members in diagnosing and resolving issues.
